As a 5’2” long-haired petite girl with noticeable assets who could be termed “cute,” I can’t help but see this image and all the “LOL THAT’S ME” comments it’s gotten as a little bit disheartening. Like, I can’t put my finger specifically on what it is about it that gets under my skin, but it makes me uncomfortable. Actually, the whole self-deprecating “JUST ONE OF THE BOYZ” thing that Tumblr likes to pull makes me uncomfortable. Why does every little thing have to become this in-group out-group superiority contest? It’s… ugh. I don’t like it.

I’d be more articulate if I weren’t still suffering the after-effects of an afternoon nap.

just as an outsider looking in who is also a feminist, I think it stems from a weird Stockholm syndrome you guys have. theres the cheerleader/model architype that pop culture emphasizes, and women’s-rights groups generally dislike. They percieve these people to be trapped into stereotypes that society wants them to be and feel they should be freed from the burden of doing these uncomfortable acts to please undeserving perverts.
On the reverse is an overcompensation to disown the conformity of social pressure and act like you said “just one of the boys” which is probably a over-simplification of what might be happening I guess to the lady on the left.

the “cheerleader” might rightly say that they aren’t conformed to society pressure, they just truly enjoy long hair/cute things/and showing off physical assets. They might even enjoy sexual freedom (non-existent-god forbid) and love it. Not because they need the twisted approval of their male overlords but because it feels good. They could go even further and say that your “disestablishment persona”, could just be feigned apathy. An attempt to hide from the dreaded “feminazi” title. A defeatist, “cant beat them, join em” mentality.
The left woman just wants to be casual. They are a person who doesn’t get excitement from cute things or showing off physical assets, maybe? It doesn’t have to mean “smart” or “deep” though. Theres nothing wrong with being lazy in your appearance if thats what makes you happy! Fuck, I’ve worn a t-shirt EVERY FUCKING DAY FOR ALMOST 8 YEARS. Its horrible, I know. Just last quarter I learned that you can wear these magical things called “button-up-collar shirts” and it makes me totally snazzy like a fox. but I digress.

“Theres nothing wrong with just being yourself” they both cry. Can these two ever truly be themselves?

My 12yr old son came out to me on Tuesday night. 

The look of fear, pride, and relief in his eyes was something I can’t explain. 

I love this little boy.

I’ve looked up to him since the day he could dance and sing across my living room.

Or the day he asked for his first BRATS doll and an XBOX 360 at the same time.

And the day he told me “This is who I am and I don’t care what anyone thinks….as long as you love me.”

I love this little boy.

He always knew who he was..and I did too.

I waited.

It’s funny the relief I felt by just hearing it come out of his mouth.

It’s scary the fear I feel for the friends and family we will lose.

I’m proud to be this boy’s mother and respect his strength and confidence for that will be what gets him through these growing years. 

PEACE, LOVE and BLESSINGS new friends…for this is all we have in life:)
